Painter Dale Cox completed a Bachelor Fine Arts at RMIT University in 1990. His acrylic on canvas works are meticulously rendered interpretations of the Australian landscape and his ‘Mickey’ sculptures are humorous critiques of popular culture, history and religion. Cox’s recent exhibition, Supermankind, presented a timely continuation of the artist’s explorations into environmental and anthropological themes; investigating the urgency of the climate crisis and man’s impact on the ancient ecology of this planet.
Cox’s works have been exhibited in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia. Most recently, Cox has been a finalist in the 2019 R&M McGivern Prize, in which he was the winner of the People’s Choice Award. In 2019 he was also a finalist in the Tattersalls Invitational Art Prize for Landscape. In 2013 he was awarded First Prize in the Melbourne Savage Club Art Prize. His work is represented in numerous collections across Australia, including Deakin University, Melbourne; Artbank, Sydney; the Art Gallery of Ballarat, Victoria; Parliament House, Canberra; and the National Australia Bank Corporate Collection, among others.
